Bariatric Surgery Seminar Information

Bowel Preparation Regimen for Colorectal Surgery

(Hemorrhoids, Anal Fissures, Rectal Surgery and Colon Surgery)

IMPORTANT: If you have cardiac or kidney problems, please call the office before starting the following preparation.

Obtain the Fleets Phospho-Soda (3 oz.) from your pharmacy or the outpatient pharmacy at the hospital.

You will need to do the following 48 hours before your surgery:

  • Consume a full liquid diet (cream soups, milkshakes, etc.).
  • Drink at least six extra glasses of water during the day.
  • At 7:00 p.m. drink 1-1/2 ounces of Fleets Phospho-Soda diluted in 1/2 glass of water (4 oz.) every 30 minutes for a total of three times.

You will need to do the following 24 hours before your surgery:

  • Consume a clear liquid diet (broth, apple juice, Jello, etc.).
  • At 8:00 a.m., take the Fleets Phospo-Soda with a full glass of water every 30 minutes for a total of three times.
  • Take Neomycin and Flagyl together orally at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight.
