DR. MICHAEL BREEN: Let us walk through the Freedom to Live Process step-by-step, contact Alexian for your Freedom to Live consultation. If you are interested in weight loss surgery, we will recommend that you also attend a Freedom to Live seminar. The seminar will help determine if you are a candidate for surgery or a non-surgical candidate.

We will help you determine if you are a candidate also for the 30-day Fast Track program. You will undergo a series of specialist evaluations including a surgeon consult, a medical history and physical, pulmonary examinations, dietary instruction, and a physiological evaluation. You will attend support groups that address changing behaviors related to eating and activity as well as addressing pre and post surgical concerns.

Dependant upon your particular conditions you may undergo additional consultation such as meeting with a cardiologist, and endocrinologist, renal doctor, physical therapist, and/or a pain specialist. Next, you will undergo pre surgical testing including blood tests, chest x-rays, an upper GI series, EKG, and abdominal ultrasound, all leading up to your surgical procedure either Gastric Bypass or LAP-BAND.

After surgery, you will continue to receive surgical and medical follow-ups also receiving ongoing behavioral support in group or individual settings as appropriate.
